Jewelry Care

Your HULMA pieces can handle getting wet - however we don't recommend having them on a daily basis when showering, working out, being in salt water, hot tub or chlorine. Also, be mindful that perfume, hairspray, sunscreen and hand lotions may darken your pieces due to some harsh chemicals they contain.

If you do choose to shower wearing your jewelry:

  1. Make sure you use mild soap, shampoo and other products. Highly fragranced and antibacterial products may be harmful to your jewelry and should be avoided.
  2. Rinse your piece thoroughly after it has been exposed to product and gently pat it dry with a clean cloth before storing or wearing it back again.
  3. Take off pieces to apply lotion or creams, and put them back on once the products are dry.

Note: Pieces with pearls, opal or turquoise should never get wet as they are porous and it can dull their luster.

Everyday Maintenance

Follow these simple tips and tricks to keep them as good as new:

1. To clean off any pollutants and grime on your jewelry, use a soft bristle brush ( a toothbrush will do ) with a bit of mild soap and lukewarm water. Once you've thoroughly cleaned it off, gently pat dry your piece with a soft cloth to avoid any water spots.

2. Keep your jewelry as dry as possible and away from humidity and direct sunlight. Store it individually in small zip-lock plastic bags, or any airtight jewelry box as to avoid tangling and rubbing against other pieces that can cause it to lose its sheen.

3. Lastly, taking your jewelry off before you go to bed will do a great deal to help it last longer.

14K GOLD FILLED:

A great quality alternative to enjoy the luster of solid gold – it is an actual layer of gold pressure bonded to another base metal such as brass. The jewelry piece has to have at least 5% solid gold content of its total weight to be classified as gold filled. It’s not to be confused with gold plating as filled has 100% more gold than gold plating. With proper care and storage, you can ensure a long, beautiful life to your pieces.

STERLING SILVER:

Like other precious metal alloys, .925 sterling silver can oxidize with time, because it is mixed with copper that reacts to moisture and sulfur in the air, causing a tarnishing/patina reaction.

Proper storage of your jewelry pieces goes a long way toward preserving its shine and preventing the oxidation that can cause dullness and discoloration. Keep your sterling silver jewelry in a cool, dark place away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Store them individually in small zip-lock plastic bags, or any airtight jewelry box. However, the best way is to wear your sterling silver jewelry frequently. Your skin oils and body chemistry may actually keep sterling silver from oxidizing faster.

GOLD VERMEIL:

It is genuine sterling silver that has been expertly plated with gold that has a minimum of 2.5 microns thick. These are strict standards that must be met in order for a piece of jewelry to be called vermeil. These pieces are great for individuals who may have sensitive skin or allergies to base metals.

Wear your pieces often. Your skin oils and body chemistry may actually keep it from oxidizing faster.

STAINLESS STEEL:

It is an alloy made of iron and chromium that does not corrode or tarnish and is very durable. This type of metal do not fade and styles plated over stainless steel are non tarnishing, hypoallergenic and waterproof.
